Saving One Life At A Time

" Six million children--and even more adults--die unnecessarily every year. Good people all over the world are doing their best to save them. You can too." This is Times Cover Story.

The year 2005 has hit hard on American psyche of generosity. The tsunami that hit Asia saw 240,000 lives lost and $ 1.3 billion raised in US alone. 80,000 people lost their lives to an earthquake in Pakistan. Hurricane Katrina brought home this destruction and loss brutally hard to the US, giving a live crash course about charities , relief work and reconstruction both to the governemnt and private sector who were taken off guard.

You can't stop an earthquake. But you can stop malaria that kills 80,000 people a month.

Bill Gates has said that it is a disgrace that the world has allowed malaria deaths to double in the last 20 years. Gates has commited $258.3 million to fight the bug. But philanthropy and the brilliant ideas of Bill Gates and other leaders who are spending huge amounts of money and their time can achieve the desired result if the countries most affected by the disease actively pursue unrelenting efforts to wipe out the disease.
