Are Indian BPO's heading for turbulence?

Business Process Outsourcing or BPO industry has been the pride of India upto now. The attraction for this industry has been the immediate availability of jobs, good perks and money.

All of a sudden the industry is going through rough waters. The National Institute of Labor has compared the BPO industry to 19th Century prisons or
Roman Slave Ships.

Several states have exempted these Call Centres from labour laws including the Industrial Disputes Act. The report by The National Institute of Labour has highlighted the apalling working conditions.

Instead of the industry or the governemnt becoming defensive, the alleged conditions must be looked into and proactive action taken, so that BPO business can continue to flourish without negative repercussions. It's time to do a reality check and put the house in order.
