Geeks To Don ' Real Clothes'

Otto Stern's "CEO's should follow NBA and make geeks wear real clothes" makes interesting reading, though I feel he goes over the top in trying to convince his arguement.

I don't accept the idea that an NBA commisioner can turn a moronic thug into a respectable athlete merely by getting him to follow a particular dress code. It is even more idiotic to insist that IT professionals should wear business clothes to stay in their business. Software engineers and developers are perfectly fine and respectable with jeans and sweaters. What we should look for is the output of their work.

It is not Otto Stern's perceived 'sloppy' dress in the IT industry that will see China sweep off the IT jobs from the US market. It will be low productivity and lack of innovation that will allow China and others to reduce the US lead in the IT sector. For the IT professionals- just maintain your energy and enthusiasm and do your job well. Consign the men of grey suits to the archives of history. It is time to forget about the dumb comformity and take on the sometimes criminally manipulative tactics of self-serving leaders head on.
