A sobering prediction for 2007 has been made by scientists at the British Met Office.
According to Professor Phil Joneds, director of the climate research unit at the University of East Anglia who is a leading climate expert, a combination of global warming and the El Niño weather system is set to make 2007 the warmest year on record with far-reaching consequences for the planet.
The prediction will be seen by environmentalists as more evidence that the world must act quickly to curb the greenhouse gas emissions that drive climate change.
