Worries over greying Asia
"A young continent reaping the demographic dividend of a large youthful workforce is giving way to a greying continent where the ratio of retirees to workers is on the rise," senior Asian Development Bank economist Park Donghyun said in a study released by the Manila-based lender.
Improved female education and better medical care is inducing Asians to have fewer children, allowing them to live longer and causing a "seismic" demographic shift, Park said.
The median age of China, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam "will exceed the world average by 2050" which spells trouble for their pension systems along with that of the Philippines, the study said.
The greying phenomenon is more pronounced in East and Southeast Asia than in South Asia, it added.
"In contrast to industrialised countries, most Asian countries do not yet have mature, well-functioning pension systems," Park said.
"As a result, they are ill-prepared to provide economic security for the large number of retirees who loom on the horizon."
In the past, experts have warned that unless action is taken now to meet the changing population trends, the South East Asian countries could face long-term social and political implications.
The problem is different from country to country and the policy makers of each country will need to work out the solution that suits them best considering the pace of the number of elderly that is increasing.
The older workers who face big challenges in a fast changing environment can remain employable only if they upgrade themselves constantly by embracing new skills and technology.
The value of the experience of the older workers in any country will diminish fast unless they can adept to the fast changing conditions of a society that can count on a globally mobile workforce to fill the gaps by relocating from one country to another.

Understanding brain based education
The brain based learning theory is based on the structure and function of the brain.
How the brain works has a significant impact on what kinds of learning activities are most effective. Educators need to help students have appropriate experiences and capitalize on those experiences.

Dubai ventures to eradicate illiteracy
The money is meant to improve the standard of education and research in the region, and aims to stimulate job creation, Sheikh Mohammed said.
It is thought to be one of the largest charitable donations in history.
He said the illiteracy rate in the Middle East is 18 percent for those under the age of 15, while for women in the region it is 43 percent. He also said the Arab world lags behind developed countries on scientific research spending.
Sheikh Mohammed who is also a successful racehorse owner is aiming to create "a knowledge-based society" in the Middle East.
Dubai is seen as the booming economic capital of the Middle East. This charitable gift will go a long way towards improving education.
Sheik Mohammed who is the oil-rich United Arab Emirates’ prime minister said, "Our region needs at this moment 15 million job opportunities, and our Arab world will need in the next 20 years between 74 to 85 million job opportunities."
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation will be based in Emirates and plans to begin handing out scholarships to students next year.

Building Relationships
Most of us have two basic questions about others when we enter into a relationship.
They are: Can I trust you? And, do you really care about me?
Depending upon our previous success in partnerships with others-personal or business-the answers may be slow in coming.
Confidence in another is often developed gradually as those involved in the relationship commit themselves to each other’s success and happiness. Although trust and confidence are the basic underpinnings of all successful relationships, they are fragile.
A relationship that has endured for months or even years can be irreparably damaged by a few unkind words or a single thoughtless act.
Don’t allow yourself to act in haste or to lose control of your emotions in important relationships.

Money isolates people ?
People who were primed with images of money were not only more self reliant, they were also less likely to help others, according to the findings of University of Minnesota marketing professor Kathleen Vohs.
"Money pushes people into a state where they become focused on achieving their own goals without help of others," says researcher Kathleen Vohs.
The finding shows that people with money on the brain also appeared to be less open, putting more physical space between themselves and others.
On the positive side of this finding is the fact that being self-sufficient and goal-driven, one can achieve something without relying on other people .
It's rather shocking that in the experiment, people who were reminded of money didn't even make an attempt to help others who were in need.
While there are many rich people who donate their money and time generously for worthy causes, the experiment does show the negative side of how some people may succumb to the influence of money.

Is Individualism leading to Narcissism?
Individualism refers to a moral, political, or social outlook that stresses human independence and the importance of individual self-reliance and liberty.
In modern culture, narcissism is fuelled by the obsessive focus on the realization of the self. Internet and blogs which is the citizen media has created a very personalized culture inflating individual egos.
America, as the land of diversity and promise, glorifies the 'individual', and praises those select few who can follow their own path, but in reality very few people ever choose to step away from society.
In 'Self-Reliance,' the famous American writer Ralph Waldo Emerson describes his vision of the individual as a man dependent on himself and refusing to conform to social standards and expectations.
Authoritarianism construed as the opposite of individualism is a far more dangerous form of social control characterized by strict obedience to the authority of a state or organization.
Clearly people like Emerson in a different time in history saw the importance of realising the individual value. It would be wrong to assume that in such thinking nothing outside yourself matters and everyone was unto themselves to do as they pleased.
There are universal values of what is considered as right and wrong, what is acceptable and unacceptable behaviour and these traits will have to be borne out to rein in the excesses of the individual which can harm the society.

Tecumseh Quote
Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life.Seek to make your life long and of service to your people.
Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.Always give a word or sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend,or even a stranger, if in a lonely place.
Show respect to all people, but grovel to none. When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light, for your life, for your strength.Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living.
If you see no reason to give thanks, the fault lies in yourself.Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to foolsand robs the spirit of its vision.
When your time comes to die,be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death,so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more timeto live their lives over again in a different way.
Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home."

Believing in the Individual
Every individual can make a difference and it does make an impact on the bottom line of financial statements. Hence, organisations are shifting from exploiting their workers not only for altruistic reasons but more importantly to increase their own profits and their survival.
Like-minded individuals are now acting to put pressure on their local officals or governments to formulate public policies that incorporate their aspirations to a fulfilling life. Individuals are no longer feeling overwhelmed by the top-down system which has itsef become obsolete.

Master Mind Alliance
A Master Mind alliance involves two or more people working together in perfect harmony toward the attainment of a common purpose.
Such a partnership creates a superpower that enables each of its members to do far more than either would have been able to achieve separately.
Choose your Master Mind partners carefully. Align yourself with people whose strengths complement yours.
If you are a right brain person, for example, a logically-driven left brain person may be a perfect counterbalance to your creative bent.
Above all, choose to associate only with people who share your positive values and your commitment to similar levels of achievement.

Human Relationships
FRICTION IN MACHINERY COSTS MONEY. FRICTION IN HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS IMPOVERISHES BOTH THE SPIRIT AND THE BANK ACCOUNT.
Discord in any relationship often has unpleasant financial implications, but it is far costlier in human terms. When you are involved in a fractious relationship, physical and mental energy that could be directed toward positive achievements is dissipated needlessly, squandered upon stressful, unproductive activities.
Unfortunately, whatever the cause of friction between individuals, it adversely affects each person involved. When you find yourself in a contentious relationship, there are few acceptable alternatives. You can work out your problems or leave the team.
Only you know which is the best solution for you, but if you objectively evaluate your reasons for becoming involved and find that they are still valid, your best course of action may be to swallow your pride and find a solution that is acceptable to everyone involved.
If you cannot do this, perhaps it’s time to get out of the partnership and find another course toward your objective.

Friends and Acquaintances
There is nothing like money to make you attractive and appealing to others. But, of course, the kind of people who are attracted to you only because of what you can do for them may be acquaintances, not friends.
You may have many acquaintances if you become wealthy, but whatever your station in life may be, you will never have true friends unless you are a friend to others.
Be very selective in your choice of friends. Choose to associate with positive people who like you for the person you are, who encourage you to be yourself and to be the best you can be.

Dress for Success
Dress codes vary greatly from company to company, as different working environments demand different styles of attire.
Since the dot-com craze began, work clothes have become more casual. It started when many Silicon Valley firms found that their employees worked better in relaxed clothing, than in stiffer, more traditional work wear, and so they adopted this casual look as their daily work attire.
Most companies now have a casual Friday. At first, casual work wear meant a dress shirt and trousers with a sports coat. Then, just a shirt or sweater and pants, until it hit what is seen in many companies today: T-shirts and shorts.
Because there has been no clear defining of what 'casual wear ' meant, there has been some confusion.
Even if the modus operandi is to wear casual clothes, its time to get dressed up again- to stand out.
Spit-shined, high quality shoes and a professionally tailored suit are immediately apparent to anyone who must wear a suit every day.
Power and money and image is important. So an elegant look does count to be taken seriously.
Snappy clothes will also help you bestow a good first impression. This is crucial when meeting with clients, as well as new people within the company.
A well put together outfit also delivers the subtler message that you pay great attention to detail. It suggests that if you put so much effort into your image, you're probably just as meticulous in your work.

Gates Foundation donates $500 million to AIDS
The contribution is by far the largest from a nongovernment source since the Global Fund was created in 2002.
The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria holds the nations and organizations it assists to high performance standards — an approach the Gates Foundation advocates in all its giving.
The Geneva-based Global Fund pulled the plug on programs in Uganda, Ukraine and Nigeria when it discovered money was being misused or progress was trifling.
That hard-nosed attitude has led to significant gains in the number of poor people around the globe who are sharing in medical advances that long ago eased the burden of disease in developed nations, the Global Fund's executive director, Richard Feachem, said Wednesday in announcing the donation.
Countries and their institutions seeking financial assistance should be held accountable for the funds provided to them. Providing the poor and the needy with tools and knowledge and the incentives for them to work and improve their lives is the solution to bring them out of the trap of poverty.

Lessons In Love
The Kama Sutra is many things: a manual for lovemaking, a marital aid sneaked furtively into many a bedroom, and to prudes throughout the ages, a scandal. Can it also be described as an inspiring spiritual text? I strongly believe it can, because the truth about sex, and love in general, is that it remains the most powerful spiritual experience that most of us will have in our lifetimes.
Understand Kama Sutra in it's different forms as explained by Deepak Chopra here.

Watch Out For Desert Fox in 2006 World Cup.
Borgetti holds the record as Mexico's top ever international goal scorer, passing the 36 scored by Carlos Hermosillo and Luis Hernandez, with his 37th in a 2-0 win over Costa Rica in August 2005.
Borgetti is a wily opportunist rather than a workhorse, his most lethal weapon being a bullet-like header. One such memorable goal came in the 2002 World Cup against Italy when he headed past Gianluigi Buffon in a 1-1 draw.
Borgetti has the uncanny knack of bagging match-winning goals against Brazil, the latest coming in the 1-0 win in the Confederations Cup in Germany 2005. He did the same in the 2001 Copa America and the 2003 Gold Cup.
The ‘Desert Fox’, as he is known in Mexico, had missed a penalty in the 2005 Brazil match before getting a 59th minute winner, which says volumes about his never-say-die attitude.
"I don't crumble easy," Borgetti said afterwards. "I have great confidence in myself."
A quality that should serve him well when he returns to Germany next month.

Doing Business With Socratic Talkers
Businessman who use the Socratic method are concerned with analysis of details. If you come across a salesman who is a Socratic, don't be overwhelmed by his talk. That's the way he knows how to operate. He would probably throw more words at you than you can hear.
If on the other hand you want to sell something to a Socratic, provide the person all the information you have about the service or product on offer. Then ask, if he or she needs more information.
Socratics enjoy playing the role of a philosopher. They are not keen to get into tangible elements of a situation. They are famous for engaging in monologue speaking, often verbalizing their entire thought process. They have to hear what they are thinking before they can make a decision. They speak first to themselves, not necessarily to others.
So, if you are doing business with Socratics, be patient and a good listener. The reward for doing that may be the business deal which you may want to clinch. If this sounds easy; try being a good listener and you'll know the answer.

A Thought From Napoleon Hill Foundation
Just as in a conversation it's a good idea to listen more than you talk, it is also wise in relationships to think about the well-being of others more than you think about your own wishes and desires. When you constantly strive to treat others in the same way you would like them to treat you, you become a person whom others like to be around, one who commands their respect, confidence, and loyalty. When you learn to manage emotions and your ego, and when you learn to always consider the needs and desires of others, it is inevitable that you will "bait your hook" with kindness and consideration, and catch more friends than you can count.
